Welcome from Peter Mearns, Chair

Thank you for your interest in the post of Chief Executive with Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd (CMSL).

Stretching over 3,500 acres, Cairngorm Mountain Estate has been a premium Scottish attraction for decades, appealing to nature lovers, families, walkers and climbers, and, of course, winter sports enthusiasts.

Cairngorm has been a cornerstone of Scottish skiing since the 1960s, and snowsports remain a core element of our visitor offering and brand. Many visitors are also drawn here by our fame as a haven for wildlife and flora, including many rare species. However, the resort is so much more.

As a subsidiary of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), we share our parent’s vision and ambitions for the estate, as described in the recently published Cairngorm Mountain Masterplan. This sets out a framework and actions for ourselves and others to make the most of this important Scottish asset.

At the centre of our vision is establishing a successful and sustainable operating company, offering a diverse and appealing range of activities to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors not only in winter, but every season of the year.

Since HIE established CMSL in December 2018, the company and its staff have successfully tackled significant challenges and put in a great performance, with a strong focus on delivering excellent customer service. With engineering works to reinstate the funicular railway currently under way and an end finally in sight to the restrictions made necessary by the pandemic, we can look to the future with renewed confidence and get ready to begin a new and exciting chapter in the story of Cairngorm Mountain.

Leading CMSL to develop and fulfil Cairngorm’s potential in the coming years will be the key focus for our new chief executive. With oversight and direction from the CMSL board, they will guide our dedicated and highly experienced staff to rebuild and consolidate Cairngorm’s position as a major player in Scotland’s vital tourism sector.

Achieving and sustaining this goal will require an exceptional person – someone who not only has the right experience and skills, but who also shares our commitment, passion and sense of urgency to drive CMSL forward as a successful business in its own right and a key economic driver for the local area.

On behalf of the board of CMSL, thank you again for your interest in this opportunity.

Peter Mearns, CMSL Chair
