Inverness Business Improvement District - Director

Welcome

Inverness is a vibrant city, the hub of the Scottish Highlands and a great place to live, work, visit and do business.

I’m Peter Strachan and I have the privilege of chairing the Board of the Inverness City Centre Business Improvement District.

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a geographically defined area where businesses come together and agree to invest collectively in projects and services that will improve their trading environment. Those improvement projects are funded by a business levy, together with a range of funding from other agencies, both public and private sector.

Our mission is to create and sustain a welcoming city where our businesses thrive, an attractive centre which appeals to locals and visitors alike and which makes the most of our superb natural setting in the Highlands.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Inverness BID has been working tirelessly for our businesses in supporting them through the last 18 months – recognised by a “High Street Heroes” award from the Scottish Towns Partnership. And Inverness is well placed to recover, with significant investment planned over the coming years: a major new visitor attraction for the Castle, redevelopment of the Victorian Market and a transformed railway station and transport hub in the city centre.

The Director of Inverness BID has a key role to play in the city’s success. You’ll have the opportunity to be the voice of the city’s businesses and work in partnership with the city and the region’s stakeholders. You’ll understand the wide range of businesses the city supports – from retail to hospitality, offices and property owners, all the way from large multinationals to small independent sole traders. You’ll have the experience to deliver projects to improve the fabric of the city and drive footfall, everything from the summer floral displays to our classic car show. And as Director of one of Scotland’s City BIDs, you’ll have the credibility to operate nationally to get the best for Inverness through Government wide initiatives.

Thank you for you interest in this role and the opportunity to lead our Business Improvement District at a very exciting time for Inverness.
