Executive Director

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the Executive Director role at The Royal High School Preservation Trust.

The Royal High School on Calton Hill was completed in 1829, and is the neo-classical masterpiece of architect Thomas Hamilton, standing proudly as a physical link between the city’s Old Town and New Town.  It is unarguably one of Scotland’s most important buildings, but despite this extraordinary position and history, since closing its doors to pupils in 1968 it has struggled to find a new purpose.

The Royal High School Preservation Trust has worked hard with a broad range of partners to identify and fund a new use for the site which befits its importance.  Our proposal to develop a new national centre for music and a new home for Scotland’s foremost specialist music school has been almost universally welcomed.

We have now reached the exciting point at which this vision for a new national cultural institution must be delivered, and are looking for an exceptional leader to help steer that process.
