Midlothian Council’s purpose is to grow the local economy fairly, reducing inequality, improving education and wellbeing, tackling climate change, and delivering effective services in a financially sustainable way. It is structured into three key service areas: Children, Young People and Partnerships; Place (which covers areas like housing, infrastructure, and environment); and Health and Social Care (jointly delivered with NHS partners).

Once known for its mining, Midlothian now has the largest concentration of animal-science related expertise in Europe.
Dolly the sheep was born at The Roslin Institute in Midlothian, Scotland. Specifically, she was born on July 5, 1996 and is the first cloned mammal ever to be created from an adult cell. The Roslin Institute is now part of the University of Edinburgh.
The Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal, a major initiative with the potential to transform Midlothian, will drive productivity and growth while reducing inequalities and deprivation.
Midlothian offers excellent leisure opportunities with a range of sport & leisure activities available in venues across the county, including a new alpine coaster ride at the Midlothian Snowsports Centre, Hillend which is the longest in the UK. It spans 980 metres.
Rosslyn Chapel is famous for its appearance in The Da Vinci Code novel and film. In the story, it’s depicted as a place where the Knights Templar hid the Holy Grail. While the book’s depiction is fictional, it has significantly increased visitor numbers to the chapel.
“Dept. Q” was filmed in Edinburgh and other locations, The fictional Egley House care residence, which appears in the series, is Vogrie House, part of Vogrie County Park located in Pathhead, Midlothian.
