The Role
As Chief Executive you will provide dynamic, strategic leadership to ensure the Commission carries out its statutory remit to safeguard the welfare and human rights of individuals with mental illness, learning disability and related conditions. Our duties are set out primarily in the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.
You will influence and challenge all key stakeholders to ensure the rights of the individual and the principles of the Acts are upheld. You will also help ensure the Commission achieves a significant public and professional profile and is able to influence and challenge policy and procedure.
You will have extensive experience in organisational leadership and have demonstrated the ability to influence and challenge key players in mental health and learning disability fields, including within the Scottish Government, the NHS and local authorities. In addition, you must demonstrate a commitment to upholding the welfare and human rights of individuals.
You will have extensive experience of corporate governance working at senior management and Board level. As CEO you will be the designated accountable officer under the Public Finance and Accountability (Scotland) Act 2000.

The Office
We have a recently refurbished modern office in central Edinburgh, five minutes walk from Haymarket station. We have adopted smarter working principles with flexible working and meeting space. All staff, including the Chief Executive, use flexible hot desks, touch down area and quiet pods throughout the working day.
