Trustee Recruitment

Welcome

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for taking the time to consider applying to become a SAMH Trustee. I hope you find the following informative and helpful.

About SAMH

Established in 1923 SAMH currently operates over 60 services in communities across Scotland; delivering direct health and social care support to over 4,000 people every year and supporting and engaging with many more people through our award-winning campaigns; employment, sport and physical activity and fundraising activities. We are also proud to work in partnership in the management of two of Scotland’s national programmes: See Me and Respectme that seek to challenge views and behaviour; increase awareness; and positively contribute to a reduction in stigma & discrimination, and bullying.

The following film provides more information about SAMH.The links below will take you to 2 films that demonstrate the work we do through partnership

Positive changes have taken place in recent years, and we have seen an increase in the prominence given to mental health; but significant challenges remain. We know that each year one in four of us in Scotland will experience a mental health problem; and 79% of people with severe and enduring mental health problems are not in work. For these reasons Scotland needs a longer-term mental health strategy.

We are looking to make three new appointments that will strengthen and complement the skills and experience that we currently have on our Trustee Board and help us to progress the work of SAMH to make a lasting impact on the mental health of Scotland.

We have ambitious strategic priorities, that includes early intervention, suicide prevention and children and young people. If you have the commitment, drive and enthusiasm to help us achieve our goals, and bring about an end to mental health stigma and discrimination we would be pleased to hear from you.

Thank you for your interest.

Trustee Recruitment

SAMH’s Trustee Board is responsible for the overall governance of the organisation and its strategic direction. The maximum number of Trustees is 12 and Trustees are able to serve for a maximum of 2 terms (a term is 3 years).

There are currently 4 Trustee Board meetings a year; a Trustee Board away day; and an annual one-to-one meeting with the Chair. In addition there is an expectation that Trustees will undertake at least one service visit a year and participate in other opportunities.

We are seeking to recruit new Trustees to help us achieve our ambitious strategic priorities which include early intervention, suicide prevention, children and young people. Everything we do is underpinned by a determination to end mental health stigma and discrimination.

Applications are welcome from people who have experience of mental health personally and professionally.

We have undertaken work to identify areas of particular preference and these are outlined in the Role Profile below.
