Recruitment of Executive Director

Welcome

Ian Halliburton
Vice Chair

Thank you for your interest in the work of The Scottish Cot Death Trust. We have recently revised our strategic plan and reaffirmed our commitment to the original aims which are:

We are the only national charity in Scotland for cot death which continues to devastate the lives of a family once every 9 days. We started in 1985 as a research project and initiated the work that led, in 2011, to an established protocol within NHS Scotland for the handling of cases of sudden unexpected death in infancy. We are active within Scottish Government and NHS Scotland to ensure best practice is maintained and plan to host an inaugural summit for professionals this autumn at the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh.

We work closely with bereaved families and offer a range of services tailored to their situation and build relationships with them as a source of continued support following their tragedy. We often support families through the anxiety of the arrival of another baby and are currently piloting a structured format for this in partnership with Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board.

We have a Scientific Advisory Committee whose members review applications for specialist research into cot death and we are currently funding a two year research project looking at breathing mechanisms in pre term infants who are sleeping.

We are not publicly funded and have a successful community fundraising programme which is currently supplemented by the receipt of a grant from the Big Lottery fund. Our annual turnover is the region of £250,000.

With our current Executive Director we have looked again at strategic priorities and are confident that we have set a clear path to follow in order to deliver more impact for families and achieve greater recognition for the work of the Trust in the next two to three years.

We are seeking a confident, experienced individual who can work with the board and lead a small dedicated staff team to realise our ambition and work with a passion for our vision to eliminate cot death by funding research, educating professionals and supporting families.

I hope you find the site informative and we look forward to receiving your application.

With best wishes

Ian Halliburton
