Alistair Dutton
Director – SCIAF

Welcome from Bishop Joseph Toal, Bishop President and Alistair Dutton, Director

Thank you for your interest in the governance of SCIAF (Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund).

The information in this microsite is intended to answer any questions you may have about the work of SCIAF and the advertised position. If, however, you have any unanswered queries or you would like to find out more about what is involved please don’t hesitate to contact Debbie Shields or Donogh O’Brien at Aspen.

SCIAF is a leading Scottish international aid and development charity, working with people in some of the poorest countries in the world to provide emergency aid and practical long term support to those affected by hunger, poverty, war and natural disasters. We are a proud member of the global Caritas family and worked with local partners in 27 countries to provide direct, practical help to over 207,000 people last year alone. In Scotland we bring together people in parishes, schools and groups across Scotland to lobby governments and big business with campaigns to address the causes of global poverty and injustice, and promote active global citizenship. We want a world without poverty, where the poorest can survive and thrive.

We are looking to appoint a new Board member and two committee members who will play a vital role in strengthening SCIAF’s governance. As an agency of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, and deeply rooted in the Catholic community in Scotland, SCIAF’s Board is accountable to that community for the financial support given in trust. Our Board and Committees ensure that strategy, systems and structures are in place to enable SCIAF to work effectively, and through the appropriate use of financial resources ensures strong stewardship of that trust. They also play a key role in scanning SCIAF’s external environment both internationally and in Scotland: reading the signs of the times; understanding the shifts in development and humanitarian work and policy; and similarly, the changing trends within the Catholic community.

Thank you for your interest in our positions and we look forward to considering your application.
