ABOUT A.M. PHILLIP

A. M. Phillip is one of Scotland's leading suppliers of commercial vehicles, serving the commercial vehicle businesses, we also sell horticultural and groundcare equipment through our Gammies Groundcare division.

Situated throughout east, central and the north of Scotland, A. M. Phillip are franchise holders for many leading brands and provide and extensive range of sales, rental and aftersales support services for a wide variety of vehicles.

A.M. Phillip is a long-established company, formed in 1955 by Alex Phillip providing a service to the Commercial Vehicle businesses in the East of Scotland.

In later years Alex’s three sons ran the business and formed A.M. Phillip Trucktech Ltd and A.M. Phillip Agritech Ltd (including Gammies Groundcare) expanding the business and covering the East of Scotland from the Lothians up to Aberdeen and across to Inverness.

Early in 2018, the Agricultural division was sold to Scot JCB (excluding Gammies Groundcare)

A.M. Phillip Trucktech Ltd currently operate out of Muiryfaulds (Forfar), Dundee, Glenrothes, Broxburn and Conon Bridge (Inverness) and have the Iveco, Ford and Fiat Commercial franchises.

Gammies Groundcare operate out of Forfar and have the Kubota, Honda and various other Groundcare franchise.

We currently employ approximately 200 people in the group.

THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the owners, this position involves a broad variety of operational responsibilities and requires a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience.

The Managing Director will work with the Directors and Senior Management Team to set, evolve and communicate the future company strategy, sustainably creating value for the shareholder. You will build and maintain the core Service Delivery, whilst investing to develop additional strategic ‘growth engines’ for the future.

You will balance delivering superior cost savings through operational excellence while continuing to develop a five star service for all service users, as well as leveraging strengths and building competitive advantage in new geographies and market segments.

You will identify and successfully execute change programmes, ensuring optimal, disciplined use of capital and resource allocation.

The Managing Director will define the culture and set the tone from the top; leveraging the culture commercially & operationally for competitive advantage, nurturing “different thinking” and reinforcing a customer and service user focus throughout the business.

Essential requirements include strong general management and consumer facing experience. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and presentation skills, with a personable and engaging style. You will be a probing, challenging, innovatively strategic, creative and bold thinker, with a continual desire for personal development and a willingness to challenge the status quo.
