About Edinburgh College
Edinburgh College is one of the largest colleges in the UK, serving a population of more than 680,000 people and providing more than 700 courses annually to 19,000 students..
Our students are at the centre of everything we do and it is our duty to prepare them for the next steps in their lives, making them work ready or able to progress in education. Students come from diverse backgrounds and communities across the region, Scotland and 128 countries in total.
The college provides flexible learning opportunities to suit all learning needs across our expansive curriculum. Courses range from entry-level and short courses to HNC, HND and degree level on a full and part-time basis. With work-based learning opportunities and alternatives to full-time study, we support people to develop and progress whatever stage they are at in their lives.
We have four faculties across four campuses and 30 outreach centres. Each faculty has expertise in specialist areas to offer students the very best educational experience. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of industry and we are committed to the highest academic standards and excellence in learning and teaching. Our students learn in industry-standard facilities across all campuses.
Students continue to thrive, with 98% of full-time students going on to employment or further studies within eight months of graduation. We have also made significant improvements to student recruitment and retention over the last couple of years and student satisfaction levels are high, as recorded in our induction and exit surveys.
The college works closely with Edinburgh College Students’ Association (ECSA) to deliver a great student experience. ECSA has won the NUS Scotland Award for College Students’ Association of the Year for the last two years.
Our people are the heartbeat of the college and we are committed to being an excellent employer, recruiting the best people and giving them all the support, tools and development opportunities to progress and excel.
As a regional college, Edinburgh College is now a key partner with the community planning partnerships in the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian. The Board of Management is clear that the college must meet its obligations to these partnerships, to grow and enhance our reputation as a trusted partner and to align our strategic and operational activity with the three local outcome improvement plans across the region.
We are also part of the City Region Deal, working with local authorities to support development, innovation, skills and infrastructure, and helping tackle inequality and deprivation within our communities.
In addition, Edinburgh College greatly values its partnerships with more than 1,700 businesses from across the region and beyond. Our aim is to increase collaborations to develop new innovative opportunities. The college will meet the needs of businesses and the demands for skills across the region through its work in developing an excellent curriculum for the future.
Other partnerships, for example the South East Scotland Academies Partnership and the East Lothian Construction Centre, smooth the transition between schools, college, further study and work.
Collaborative work with university partners provides flexible articulation and progression routes, and the college is the biggest single provider of undergraduate students to each of Edinburgh’s universities.
The college also now has a truly international reach and reputation, working with partners in Latin America, China, Africa and the Middle East.
We aim to continue developing our college to support our students, our staff and our local communities to thrive, and are moving confidently into the future under our new Strategic Plan and Blueprint.
