ASPEN AWAY DAY
‘All work and no play makes Jack a very dull boy.’
So goes the popular phrase warning of the dangers of not occasionally letting ones hair down, made famous -somewhat fittingly as we stand in the shadow of recent Halloween celebrations- by the 1980 horror hit ‘The Shining’. Whilst we at Aspen People do pride ourselves on being a far more civilized bunch than Jack Nicholson –our behaviour at the worst being the early morning scrum for the cafetiere- we’d hate to be considered dull. In light of this we recently escaped the confines of the office and took an excursion on our Aspen Team Away Day.
Kindly organised by one of our directors Catriona Mackie on the 27th of October we had the opportunity to visit the impressive Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, a comprehensive collection of exhibitions celebrating the life and work of one of Scotland’s most famous sons. Set amidst 4 autumnal acres in Alloway, surrounded by the stunning Ayrshire countryside, the museum also features the world-famous Burns Cottage in which the bard himself was born in 1759; all-in-all a genuinely inspiring location of Scottish heritage the whole team felt privileged to experience.
Under the guidance of Gillian Brown, founder of Edinburgh based transformational coaching and management development company Full Circle Development, the Aspen Team partook in a variety of team building exercises designed to unlock our personal and business potential. The team benefited immeasurably from Gillian’s innovative coaching techniques, designed to encourage us to appreciate our commitment to drive for progressive success as fore-runners in the bespoke executive recruitment arena. Her passionate and inspirational approach motivated us to examine how we use our diverse expertise and extensive networks within the public and private sectors to continue delivering impeccable customer service for clients and candidates, a achievement made possible by our unique partnership ethos and standard of excellence. Additionally we learnt a great deal about one another and realised we all share a love of the business and its unique culture of personalised, flexible, professional recruitment.
Afterwards the team had a final chance for some cultural sight-seeing, taking a stroll to the nearby Burns Monument and then the scenic Brig ‘O’ Doon, built in 1400 over the River Doon; the perfect spot for a team photo to end our day.
All of the Aspen Team took some valuable lessons away from our Team Away Day. We left inspired to create and actualise personal and business goals in order to continue exceeding our client’s needs and expectation. Further still we will be carrying forward a unified vision for the company as we move into 2016.
