As members of CBI Scotland the team at Aspen were very much looking forward to attending this year’s CBI Scotland Annual Dinner.

The event is one of the highlights of the Scottish business calendar and we were pleased to host a table of Scottish business leaders join us from food and drink as well as infrastructure and engineering services organisations.

Carolyn Fairbairn, CBI Director-General, challenged the Scottish Government to take action on a range of issues to make Scotland an attractive place to do business, including:

Innovation - challenge the Government to set a concrete target for public and private R&D spending so progress can be tracked
Productivity - establish a business-led taskforce to help grow the economy
Business rates - swiftly implement the Barclay Review recommendations
Brexit - work more effectively with the UK Government during EU negotiations

Speaking before an audience of hundreds of Scotland’s senior business leaders, the CBI Director-General also praised the achievements of Scottish firms and urge politicians to “finally retire the rhetoric of ‘small business good, big business bad’”.

Our thanks again to the team at CBI Scotland and the Glasgow Hilton Hotel for a most enjoyable evening.
