Governor (Trustee)

St Columba’s Hospice Care

Governor (Trustee)

St Columba’s Hospice Care is an independent Scottish Charity with a diverse and committed workforce (made up of approximately 225 staff and over 650 volunteers). We provide specialist care and support to people with life-limiting conditions and their families across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Last year, we made a difference to the lives of over 1100 people.

Our patients and their families rely on us to deliver outstanding care and support, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our aim through every interaction with an individual or a family, is to provide access to the resources and services they need, so that they can live as independently as possible for as long as they can. That’s why we put patients and their families at the heart of everything we do both in the Hospice and in the community.

Our board of governors give their time, experience and skills to help St Columba’s deliver the very best in palliative care. Our board play a vital role in our success and add real value to the existing management team, ensuring that the strategic aims, objectives and direction of the charity are established and met. They understand the importance of ensuring we reach as many people in the community as possible, they also support our growth aspirations but they realise there is more we can do to make a positive impact on people’s lives and offer strategic guidance to get us there.

We are looking for a passionate, strong and inspirational leader to join our board and help us deliver long-term impact and ultimately, achieve better outcomes for the patients and families we support.  Our new Governor will have a background and experience in income generation; income generation and building of relationships with corporate businesses will be key for this role.  Strategic thinking and an effective contribution to fundraising are also key.

You will have an understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, have sound, independent judgment and be able to think creatively and work effectively as part of a team.

There are usually 4 quarterly Board meetings and 2 strategy discussion meetings each year and sub-committees usually meet at least 2 times each year.
