Governor

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in this Governance post within St Columba’s Hospice Care.

We’re a local charity providing specialist care and support to people who are affected by a life-limiting illness and our patients and their families are at the heart of everything we do.

St Columba’s Hospice Care will soon be entering the final year of its current strategy. Looking ahead to 2024, the organisation has an exciting phase embedding service growth and development including the expansion of community care and outreach services across East Lothian, a transition from the traditional ‘day hospice’ model of care to a more responsive outpatient model, an extension of our compassionate communities support and the launch of our University Hospice hub in partnership with Queen Margaret University. As we embark on this final phase, we’re also looking to the future and will be recruiting for vital roles to help deliver our ambitious goals, drive change and help us continue to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

As an independent charity, we couldn’t do it without our volunteers. Our board of governors give their time, experience and skills to help St Columba’s deliver the very best in palliative care. Our board play a vital role in our success and add real value to the existing management team, ensuring that the strategic aims, objectives and direction of the charity are established and met. They understand the importance of ensuring we reach as many people in the community as possible, they also support our growth aspirations but they realise there is more we can do to make a positive impact on people’s lives and offer strategic guidance to get us there.

The Hospice’s ambitious four year strategic plan, ‘Adapting to a changing world’, is about responding to the diverse needs of our community and was developed following a programme of board, workforce and stakeholder engagement. We are already seeing significant results from the changes we implemented throughout the first three years and as we head into the final year, we are looking for a passionate, strong and inspirational leader to join our board and help us deliver long-term impact and ultimately, achieve better outcomes for the patients and families we support.

Please watch the videos below from our CEO and a member of the Board, where they talk about the Hospice, the role and what they are looking for in the successful candidate for this position.
