The Big Lottery Fund supports people and communities across the UK. They will be distributing over £750 million of National Lottery money across the UK in 2016, working to enhance and transform communities and lives by funding health, education, environment and charity projects. The Big Lottery Fund in Scotland assesses and manages a portfolio of grants with an annual funding allocation of around £70million per annum. They aim to be a good partner in Scotland – attuned and relevant to communities, prepared and able to co-operate with others and innovative where there is an opportunity to make resources go further or achieve more. BLF want to do all they can to help communities and organisations to be successful so in addition to funding they offer access to specialist expertise in areas such as business and financial planning, long-term relationships, and a committed, experienced and talented team.
You will be excited by the Fund’s purpose and this rare opportunity to join the organisation and influence improvements to people’s lives in Scotland and beyond. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be responsible for the development of the Scottish funding portfolio and contribute to their collective vision for People in the Lead as a member of the UK-wide senior management team. You will help shape the UK-wide strategy and systems within which the business operates.
Leading a senior management team that delivers day-to-day operations in Scotland, you will have the ability to inspire and motivate a large team and have knowledge of the environment that will inform decision making so that allocated funds have an impact at local level and more broadly. Outstanding analytical and communications skills will be essential to ensure the effective delivery of high quality grant assessment and management.
A strategic thinker and persuasive negotiator, you will be someone who understands the devolved nature of the country’s political landscape and are able to exercise sensitive judgement in response. It will be essential to hold the respect of Trustees, colleagues, external managers and advisers to demonstrate a genuine commitment to bringing real improvements to communities, and to the lives of people most in need.
