Information Services (ISD), part of Public Health and Intelligence (PHI), NHS National Services Scotland (NSS), collects, validates, interprets and disseminates health and health service information and intelligence for Scotland. Scotland has some of the best health service data in the world. Few other countries have information which combines high quality data, consistency, national coverage and the ability to link data to allow patient based analysis and follow up.

This post is a joint appointment by NHS National Services Scotland and the University of Glasgow with time equally divided between the two roles. NHS National Services Scotland will be the lead employer.

PHI is a multidisciplinary organisation that includes responsibility for information and health protection services for Scotland. You will join them to provide:
• medical and public health advice on the collection, analysis and interpretation of routinely collected information within Scotland;
• support for developments to ensure that the general clinical and public health information needs in Scotland are being met;
• clinical and public health support for the development of use of information on cancer;
• leadership as director of the Scottish Cancer Registry;
• expert medical and public health advise to support the interpretation and presentation of routine information and intelligence.

At the University of Glasgow you will:
• Lead a programme of research using routine Scottish cancer data and record linkage
• Obtain grant funding to support this research programme
• Publish peer-reviewed manuscripts resulting from this research programme
• Supervise PhD/MD students

You will be medically qualified with full GMC registration and be on the GMC Specialist Register for Public Health or within 6 months of inclusion at the expected date of appointment. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and organisation and leadership skills are essential.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has worked overseas for more than 3 months will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
