About Cairn

Cairn Housing Group’s mission is to provide quality, safe and affordable homes and services, in our communities and with our partners, throughout Scotland.

2020 marked Cairn’s 30th anniversary as an independent registered housing association, having been the Scottish arm of the Royal British Legion Housing Association previous to this. We are proud of our roots and are ambitious for a successful and progressive future.

Our portfolio of housing stock has increased from 916 homes in 1990 to over 3,200 today through a variety of means including transfers of engagements, stock transfers and our new build development programme. In addition to rented homes, we offer shared ownership and shared equity opportunities, as well as a range of specific accommodation and support services for special needs groups. We also provide factoring services to almost 700 home owners. We employ almost 200 staff and have an annual total income of over £17m. Cairn Living, our commercial subsidiary, provides our non-charitable activities including garage management, factoring, and management of mid-market rent properties, with plans for further initiatives.

In 2018 Ancho tenants voted in favour of a constitutional partnership to become part of the new Cairn Housing Group. Ancho is a North Ayrshire based housing association with almost 700 homes and this partnership gave Cairn and Ancho greater financial resilience and capacity to deliver positive outcomes for our customers and communities.  The Group now manages almost 4,000 homes.

As a not-for-profit registered social landlord, we are registered with the Scottish Housing Regulator and manage our services from our headquarters in Edinburgh.  We have homes across 24 local authority areas and offices in Inverness, Bellshill and Irvine, including a wide range of general needs housing, retirement courts and an active development programme.

We work in partnership with the Scottish Government, local authorities and others, to support sustainable communities by improving access to and choice in affordable housing and high quality services.
