Church of Scotland

Welcome

The Church of Scotland is Scotland's national church with a rich tradition professing the Christian faith since 1560. Today it remains the country's largest membership organisation with a presence in every community. Through our active Christian commitment, we are driven by a determination to serve those communities and all Scotland.

Historically our Church has been at the forefront of educational innovation. In pioneering an education for rich and poor alike with the provision of a school in every parish, Scotland was centuries ahead of many other countries. This led to the country becoming a powerhouse of science, literature and philosophy.

Today, we remain one of the largest providers of social care with centres for those who struggle with addictions, homelessness, postnatal depression and other mental health issues. We also provide many excellent care homes for the elderly.

We actively engage with every aspect of public life, from climate change to social policy. As Scotland changes, the Church is changing too. We are embracing reforms which will enable our well-loved traditions to continue and bring about new growth in flourishing Christian communities. Changes in society and culture present us with new challenges, yet for every one of these, there are also lively and innovative examples of success.

This is an exciting and demanding time to be part of the Church. We are seeking someone with vision and excellent leadership and strategic skills to assist the Church to remain an important part of many people's lives and an important part of Scotland as a whole.
