Erskine is one of Scotland’s most established and respected charities, proudly supporting Veterans and their families for over 100 years. Through the delivery of high-quality care, housing, support and community-based services, Erskine is committed to helping Veterans of all ages live fulfilled, independent lives.

Erskine’s vision is “A Scotland in which Veterans and their families thrive”, and its mission is “to offer Veterans the best possible future – through the best possible care, accommodation and community support.”

With a new Strategic Plan in place to 2031, setting out ambitious goals across care, accommodation and community services, Erskine is now seeking to appoint new Trustees to join its Board.

The Role

Erskine is seeking to appoint a number of new Trustees to join its Board at an important point in the organisation’s development. These are voluntary, non-executive appointments, offering the opportunity to contribute to the strategic leadership and governance of a nationally respected Veterans charity.

The Board is responsible for setting Erskine’s strategic direction, overseeing delivery of the Strategic Plan, ensuring strong governance and regulatory compliance, and supporting the Executive Team to deliver high-quality, sustainable services.

Trustees work collaboratively with the Chair, fellow Board members and the Executive Team, providing independent insight, constructive challenge and support. Trustees also act as ambassadors for Erskine, promoting its values, mission and impact.

The Person

Erskine welcomes applications from individuals from all backgrounds and lived experiences who are motivated to support Veterans and contribute at Board level.

Previous trustee or board experience is welcomed but not essential. Erskine is open to supporting individuals taking on their first trustee role.

A military background is not required and above all, Trustees will share a commitment to Erskine’s mission, values and long-term ambition to improve outcomes for Veterans and their families across Scotland.

Time Commitment & Practicalities

• The role is unremunerated, with reasonable expenses reimbursed
• Trustees typically attend approximately 4 Board and 3 committee meetings per year, with occasional additional events
• Board meetings are usually held in Bishopton, with hybrid options available, and generally take place during working hours
