Chair of Home Group Scotland

The Role

As Chair of Home Group Scotland, you’ll lead the Board and make sure it fulfils its responsibilities effectively. You’ll set the Board’s direction, build a culture of accountability, drive performance and uphold the highest standards of governance.

As Chair, you’ll:

  • Lead the Board, ensuring we deliver our mission, values and strategic goals.
  • Help shape strategies that keep us strong for the future and ready for change.
  • Be the main link between the Board and the Director of Scotland, building a positive working relationship and making sure leadership and management roles work well together.
  • Represent Home Group Scotland at meetings with partners, regulators and MSPs.
  • Carry out annual appraisals for Board members.

Our current strategy runs until 2027, and this is an exciting chance to shape what comes next. You’ll bring your leadership experience and help influence the future direction of Home Group Scotland and Home Group.

Your skills

  • You are a strong strategic leader with commercial acumen.
  • You communicate well and build positive relationships.
  • Experienced in creating strategic partnerships across sectors.
  • A sound understanding of Scottish government policy and the regulatory landscape.
  • You’ve chaired before as a non-executive.
  • You have led organisations through change.

Remuneration and time commitment

  1. Home Group Scotland Board
    • Meets six times a year (a mix of in person and online).
    • Has an in person, annual board development day.
    • You’ll undertake annual appraisals of Home Group Scotland Board Members
    • Home Group Limited pays £1000 per annum for chairing this Board
  1. Home Group Limited Board
    • Meets six times a year in Newcastle.
    • Includes an overnight stay for training and dinner the evening before.
    • Payment for this part of the role is £12,700.
  1. Governance and People Committee
    • Meets four times a year, usually the day before the main Board meeting.

Alongside these formal commitments, you’ll need time for:

  • Reading Papers
  • Preparing for and reviewing meetings
  • Ad hoc meetings and conversations with board members and senior colleagues
  • Support with the recruitment of new board members and senior leadership
  • Attending at least one in person customer engagement event per year

Please note all travel and reasonable expenses are covered

Term of appointment

  • The term for this appointment is maximum five years.
