Director of Learning and Teaching

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the position of Director of Learning and Teaching at North Highland College UHI.

North Highland College UHI is an academic partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), a progressive and innovative University located in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland that dares to be different. As a tertiary institution we respond to local, regional and national educational needs from entry level training all the way through to PhD opportunities. A key player within the UHI, we bring a multiplicity of strengths to the partnership through our breadth of curriculum and innovative learning, teaching and training methods.

Across our campuses, in Thurso, Halkirk, Dornoch and Alness, we provide a diverse range of learning, teaching and research opportunities for students from across Scotland and beyond.

Our Thurso campus provides the base for our largest community of students and the home of our unique Engineering, Technology and Energy Centre, as well as the renowned Environmental Research Institute. The Rural Studies Centre near Halkirk caters for our land-based subjects such as veterinary nursing, gamekeeping and equine studies in an authentic rural farm setting.

In Sutherland, the College has recently opened a state-of-the-art Centre for Golf which welcomes degree level students from across the UK and internationally. Our Dornoch campus is also home to some of our hospitality provision with state of the art kitchen facilities.

In our Alness campus, we provide a wide-ranging curriculum for communities across Easter Ross including our creative industries provision and the Film making degree.

We are looking for our new Director of Learning and Teaching to play a key role working across the academic partnerships that form the University of the Highlands and Islands. In a period of just over 20 years, the University has become an established educational force in Scotland and further afield. We must however continue our evolution and growth and we are now required to enter a new chapter. There is a real desire to work ‘better together’ to deliver more from our assets, look at options to streamline, centralise, or de-centralise what we do, for the benefit of learners across the region.

We look forward to your application.
