The Role
The Role: Chief Executive
Location: Stirling
Salary: The salary band for this post is £111,989 to £122,453. Starting salary will be on the base of the scale £111,989.
Our current Chief Executive, Professor James Curran, helped set SEPA up in 1996, and as Chief Executive since January 2012 has steered SEPA through the most fundamental changes since it was established. We expect our transformational change programme to continue for some years to come, but continuous improvement will be a permanent feature of how SEPA operates.
Professor Curran will be leaving SEPA in early 2015, so we need a new Chief Executive - someone who will continue our drive to establish SEPA as a genuinely world-leading environment protection agency. Someone not only to continue the journey on which we have embarked, but to lead, steer and drive our organisation into the future. It won’t be easy. You will need vision, energy, stamina and resilience. But the reward is in making a real contribution to Scotland’s economic development, to the protection of people and property, and to Scotland’s world class environment.
As Chief Executive Officer, you will have an outstanding reputation for leadership and achievement in a comparable environment, empowering and enabling others in pursuit of excellence. You will secure the commitment, support and confidence of SEPA’s staff, and its many and varied customers and stakeholders. You know how to achieve an appropriate balance between active regulation, enforcement, and promoting good practice. With a focus on environmental risk and accountability, you will ensure the right balance of regulatory and other approaches, focusing SEPA’s efforts to best effect on the most important environmental issues. As an inspirational leader with a style that encourages innovation, you will support a creative but effective approach to improving the environment, human well-being and economic success; achieving a real, positive, and lasting impact for Scotland.
