The Open University (OU) is one of the most important post-war innovations in higher education since its foundation in 1969. People of all ages and backgrounds study with the Open University, for all sorts of reasons – to update their skills, get a qualification, boost their career, change direction. The Open University is open to them all.

The Director of the OU in Scotland will lead the strategic management of the University in Scotland and contribute to the wider development and implementation of University policies, strategies and projects.  Representing and promoting the University in Scotland, you will also lead and develop relationships with key Scottish stakeholders such as the Scottish Government, Scottish Funding Council, Universities Scotland and other agencies such as Skills Development Scotland and the Student Awards Agency for Scotland. 

Key to the role will be the development of the University’s business in Scotland to expand its customer base and develop new revenue sources.  You will also manage the delivery of services to students in Scotland whilst being accountable for the leadership, development and management of staff and operations based in Scotland.

The successful candidate must have a demonstrable track record of organisational leadership backed up by experience of working within a complex or devolved organisation.  You will also have strong relationship, stakeholder management and communication skills, as well as commercial and political acumen.
