Scottish Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency - Board Directors

Welcome from the Hon. Lady Rae

Thank you for taking an interest in the important work of this new agency which is being established to function independently of the Catholic Church in overseeing its safeguarding practice in parishes, dioceses, religious congregations and Catholic organisations across Scotland.

I am looking to appoint Board Directors who will work with me to rebuild confidence and trust, especially among those who have experienced abuse.  In the coming months, Board directors will help me to appoint a new Director of Safeguarding and a Head of Training whose expertise will be vital in providing leadership in safeguarding at a national level.

I will expect Board Directors to bring their own expertise and experience to the task of developing the Agency’s policies and procedures that will build on improvements made in recent years, in the light of various external reviews of safeguarding.  All Board directors will be given the induction and ongoing support necessary to be able to fully contribute to the Board and its decision-making.

This is an exciting opportunity for people who wish to assist the Catholic Church’s safeguarding personnel – clergy, religious, employees, and volunteers – to ensure compliance with the standards that have been designed to protect children and vulnerable adults from abuse or harm.  You can learn more about these standards, set out in the core document ‘In God’s Image’, by watching the video in the About SCSSA page.

If you have the time, the interest and the commitment to undertake this important work, I look forward to hearing from you.
