Thackray Medical Museum has achieved much since its establishment in 1997, and has won a place in people’s hearts and in their memories of museum experiences. We inspire and educate visitors and school children from around the UK and beyond through imaginative and exciting exhibitions, fun family workshops and a comprehensive schools programme.

Our aim is to become the UK’s leading medical museum by delivering innovative and inspirational learning opportunities rooted in the heritage of medicine and healthcare.

As Chief Executive you will lead on the development and delivery of Thackray’s strategic vision as well as developing the organisation’s financial sustainability ensuring delivery of organisational targets. You will be an ambassador for the Museum, developing key collaborative relationships and networks whilst providing effective leadership to staff and working with the Board of Trustees to maintain high standards of governance.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing an organisation of comparable scale, together with experience of generating and developing income streams. You will be a clear strategic and entrepreneurial thinker who is action-orientated with the ability to create and foster successful partnerships and networks. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to lead, inspire, manage and develop a dedicated workforce. Knowledge of relevant charity and other legal requirements would be desirable.
