Family

If you have children they will be at the forefront of your mind when considering a relocation. Schools are a major priority, as is the reassurance that in NewcastleGateshead you are offering your family a great quality of life.

We have a fantastic choice of excellent state and private schools. Founded in 1545, Newcastle's Royal Grammar School is steeped in tradition, while both Central High and Church High all girls schools offer superb learning environments. Statistics show that the area consistently outperforms the national average for A-Level performance and the region hosts a huge higher education student base with five excellent universities within 25 miles of one another including: Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland, Teesside and Durham; all levels of education are well catered for.

Our health provision has an international reputation. The Freeman Hospital has pioneering expertise in transplant surgery for both adults and children and is one of Europe's leading lung transplant centres.

NewcastleGateshead provides every cultural and leisure activity, yet is easily accessible and small enough to walk around with great public transport links including a Metro light rail system.

There are some great parks, including Leazes Park in central Newcastle, Jesmond Dene with its fantastic Pets' Corner, the award-winning Saltwell Park in Gateshead and Derwent Valley Country Park. The coast is a 20 minute Metro journey from town and offers both long sandy beaches and more secluded bays, perfect for play. Clean, safe beaches are a given.

For families of all ages, the MetroCentre in Gateshead provides a vast range of shops all under one roof, as well as a cinema, bowling alley, and a Family Entertainment Centre.

All of NewcastleGateshead's cultural attractions without fail make an effort to provide for even the very youngest member of the family. There is Seven Stories, the children's book centre, museums including The Centre for Life, the free Hancock and Discovery Museum. Dance City, a partner of the college, offers classes from birth while BALTIC's Quay education space runs activities for children and teenagers.

If you visit the city prior to relocating, be sure to bring the children with you. We're positive they'll have a great time.
