The Scottish Library and Information Council is the independent advisory body to the Scottish Government on library and information related matters. Formed in 1991, SLIC provides a leadership focus for Scottish library and information services, promoting development in the library sector, monitoring standards of provision and championing innovation. SLIC also regularly undertake research to drive a greater understanding of the library and information sector in Scotland.

SLIC are looking to appoint a new Chair of the Board to lead them into the next chapter. The appointed Chair will lead the Board with knowledge and enthusiasm, showing dedication to improving Scotland’s communities through life-long learning and access to information. The Chair’s chief responsibilities will be to:

  • Chair Board meetings and strategy day
  • Lead the development and the delivery of a new strategy
  • Champion collaboration and advocacy
  • Ensure organisational performance and good governance

The successful applicant will have experience of serving on a Board in an organisation going through organisational change and operating within a very challenging financial climate. They will already have a public profile in Scotland, be a confident and engaging communicator and a passionate advocate on behalf of the libraries across Scotland. They will have the capacity to give the role the time commitment necessary to be successful.
