Citizen Advice Scotland (CAS) is the operating name of the Scottish Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, (SACAB) which is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.

Citizens Advice Scotland, our 61 member bureaux and our consumer helpline together form Scotland’s largest independent advice network. We help more than 300,000 people solve their problems each year in communities everywhere from city centres to the Highlands and Islands.

CAS are now looking to appoint a new independent Chair as part of recommendations from an independent governance review. One of the key recommendations was the need to create a new Board that has the relevant skills, experience and capabilities to provide strategic leadership and effective governance of the organisation, and that this new Board should be appointed at an AGM convened in early 2017.

As Chair you will possess strong governance and credibility to provide leadership to the new Board and ensure that Trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the proper governance and strategic direction of CAS. Part leader, part ambassador, you will foster positive working relationships between the Board and the Senior Management Team and help to develop the Associations profile and representation with all relevant stakeholders.

You will have proven experience and understanding of governance gained from previous Chair roles as well as experience of the charity / not for profit sector.

The Chair will be appointed for a term of 3 years, and is eligible to seek nomination to serve a further 3-year term. You will be required to attend approximately 6 Board meetings annually and you will require a commitment of around 2-3 days per month on average.
