Director (Maternity cover until approx. April 2021)

Salary: £56,559 per annum

Location: Edinburgh

Hours: 37.5 per week

Sustrans is the UK charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle. Their vision is a society where the way we travel creates healthier places and happier lives for everyone.

Together with a wide range of partners, they are making Scotland a healthy, happy place in which to move around sustainably, to work and play, and a sustainable and beautiful tourist destination. The National Cycle Network in Scotland is promoted and developed by Sustrans in partnership with a wide variety of partners. Sustrans Scotland works very closely with Transport Scotland and local authorities to provide advice, support and funding that makes it easier for people to walk and cycle for everyday journeys. Sustrans manages funds on behalf of Transport Scotland that are distributed through a series of competitive grant funding programmes.

Sustrans has an exciting opportunity for someone who cares about sustainability and wants to make a difference. As Director, you will be responsible for operational delivery, leading staff and managing resources to deliver Sustrans Scotland’s business plan. In this varied role, you’ll also:

  • Lead the Senior Leadership Team across all behaviour change, network development and infrastructure programmes throughout Scotland.
  • Ensure successful delivery of the Transport Scotland funded Active Cities & Towns programme.
  • Maintain and strengthen strategic relationships with Transport Scotland and the various stakeholders delivering funded programmes.
  • Contribute to Sustrans-wide strategic development as part of the Directors team.

Reporting to the Deputy CEO of Sustrans, who is based in Edinburgh, the successful candidate should have experience managing teams, strong budget management skills and a track record of successfully delivering projects. The role may require occasional travel throughout Scotland and the UK.
