Salary: £30,000 – 34,000
Hours: 35 hours per week. We’re happy to talk flexible working.

PVG: Basic. Wherever we go and whatever we do, we put young people’s safety and wellbeing first

We’re looking for someone who really knows their stuff on all things media and public affairs to join our fun and friendly comms & fundraising team.

Society is changing. In often fragmented communities, the pressures and expectations on young people are increasing. Scouts has never been so important in helping young people prepare for the future, developing the skills they need to succeed in a changing world.

Every week we give thousands of 4-25 year olds across Scotland the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life. They develop a sense of optimism and strong values as well as the leadership and team working skills that are more valuable today than ever. Scouts is an inclusive organisation and all young people are welcome and encouraged to become a Scout if they would like to, there are no barriers to participation.

We make a big difference. You could too.

This is an exciting and impactful role. You’ll be shaping and delivering our media and public affairs work, which means looking after our proactive and reactive media work and helping us to engage meaningfully with elected officials and decision makers. You’ll also support our fantastic community impact work, and build strategic relationships with other charities and organisations in Scotland.

We have a really fun and inspiring brand to work with, which is all about skills for life. Every day you’ll be helping us to get that message out into the world so more young people can join in and achieve incredible things with Scouts.

In this role you will:

  • Lead on media and public affairs activity to support the Scouts Scotland Strategy.
  • Raise positive awareness of Scouts in the media, among influential decision makers, leaders of civic Scotland, politicians and others in key public positions, members of Scouts Scotland and the general public.
  • Keep up to date on public policy, and Scottish parliamentary affairs, identifying and responding to opportunities for Scouts Scotland to meaningfully engage.
  • Support our community impact work to promote projects and work across Scotland, building strategic relationships with external organisations to help our members make a difference in their communities.
  • Provide media and public affairs training, advice and support for our staff, volunteers and young people.

What it’s like working with us

We’re a values-driven, award winning flexible employer. We want Scouts Scotland to be the best place to work and offer a wide range of family and carer friendly benefits to support work/life balance. This includes flexible hours, paid leave for volunteering and public duties, and additional leave for long service. We believe in supporting and developing our people, with a focus on wellbeing and continued personal and professional development.

We’re really happy to talk flexible working for this role. That includes number of hours and when they’re worked. We have offices just outside Dunfermline. This role can be based at the office, at home (with regular travel for meetings), or a hybrid.

If you’re creative, enthusiastic, full of ideas for promoting Scouts, really good at writing, and have a track record of delivering great media and engagement work, then we’d love to hear from you!
