The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) is a membership organisation which represents Scotland’s housing associations, co-operatives and registered social landlords (RSL’s).  Housing remains a top priority for the Scottish Government with members playing a key role in providing solutions to tackling homelessness and delivering new homes. SFHA currently represents 132 member organisations across Scotland, who collectively provide over 247,000 warm, good quality, affordable and safe homes in successful communities.  The SFHA works closely with the Government and other organisations to achieve desired legislation, regulation and funding which will support the success of its members and make a difference for people and places. Through comprehensive and effective communication channels and events it provides opportunities for the sector to innovate, learn, consult and engage.  Members look to SFHA to develop and deliver modern and innovative services which help them achieve their ambitions.

SFHA is now looking for a Head of Membership and Policy Services who will lead on maximising membership and ensuring the interests of members’ are at the heart of everything that we do.  Working  collaboratively with the other Heads of Service and supporting a talented team, leadership is needed to gather, filter, devise and disseminate policy and research to influence government and decision makers and to inform practice. A key focus of the role will be to ensure that policy, events and other benefits that result from an understanding of priorities are determined directly by the members and respond to their interests.    Demonstrating value for money through the benefits and impacts achieved through membership is also key to success for this pivotal role.

The successful candidate will embrace the SFHA core values and the vision that everyone should have a good home in a successful community. The new Head of Member and Policy Services, whilst not requiring a housing qualification, will be passionate about the difference housing can make and how effective representation of members’ ambitions can lead to positive change.  Demonstrable relationship management experience, excellent communication skills and an understanding of the policy setting context would be essential to achieving success in this role.

Chief Executive Sally Thomas was appointed in 2017 and is focussed on driving forward improvements and the progression of the sector and the SFHA itself. A review of the operating structure has realigned the Head of Membership and Policy Services post.  SFHA need someone who is confident to build and sustain relationships and develop and implement strategies to ensure that service provision and policy development is relevant, engaging and compelling and that SFHA grows as the leading voice for housing in Scotland.  We now seek a passionate, engaging and creative leader to take on this role to contribute to the growth and continued success of the organisation and its members.
